Dr. Azatian graduated from Yerevan State Medical School in Armenia in 1986, where he also completed his residency training in Psychiatry. In 1990, he completed a Fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry at the All-Union Research Institute of Alcohol and Drug Abuse in Moscow, USSR, which was the equivalent of NIDA in the United States. He began his career at the same Institute as a Psychiatrist and Senior Researcher, where he had the opportunity to conduct impactful research using opioid antagonists in rapid detox and maintenance treatment in opioid use disorder. Additionally, Dr. Azatian conducted Continuing Medical Education (CME) seminars for physicians from across the USSR.
In 1995, Dr. Azatian moved to the United States. After living in New York, NY, and Los Angeles, CA, he moved to Lubbock, TX, in 1999 and completed his residency training in Psychiatry at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in 2003. Since then, Dr. Azatian has built a successful private practice and worked at various institutions, including Covenant Health System Mental Health Plaza and Montford Psychiatric Unit. Dr. Azatian also played a key role in the establishment of the Geriatric Behavioral Health Unit at Trust Point Hospital in Lubbock, where he served as Medical Director. Most recently, Dr. Azatian has been serving as the Medical Director of Oceans Behavioral Health in Lubbock since April 2023.
Considering himself as “old school”, Dr. Azatian is always trying to bring novel treatment to his patients. He was first in Lubbock to offer Suboxone program for treatment of opioid Use Disorder in April of 2003. More recently, Spravato (esketamine) treatment for managing symptoms of Depression and Anxiety. Dr. Azatian is also the first in Lubbock to offer Psychiatrist- managed IV Ketamine infusion Therapy for Depression and Anxiety
As a dedicated psychiatric professional, I bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the field. I hold a Masters degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner, complemented by specialized training in Psychiatric care. With 15 years psychiatric experience, I have had the privilege of working with diverse patient populations, addressing various mental health issues with empathy and expertise. My approach is holistic and I seek to improve mental health outcomes through empowering individuals to achieve their fullest potential.
With nearly 20 years of experience in medical care and patient support, I am dedicated to delivering compassionate, high-quality service in every interaction. Patient satisfaction remains at the forefront of my work, and I take pride in ensuring that each patient and their family receive the utmost care, respect, and professionalism.
I graduated from Western Texas College in 2014 with my licensed vocational Nursing certification. Since then I have been in many different roles as a Nurse, but one thing has remained my constant which is my connection to my patients and serving others. It is my passion and purpose to serve others and to brighten the lives of people who are hurting. Whether facilitating treatment or making it easier to access care I am happy to help wherever I can.
